Guns and drugs seized during weekend arrests

Two Quincy men have been arrested on gun and drug charges, in two separate incidents that occured last weekend.

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, around 1:15 p.m., the Quincy Police Department was dispatched to the Sunnyvale Cemetery in Quincy regarding a subject displaying a handgun during a burial.

According to a press release from the department, upon the arrival, the responding officer noticed the crowd disbursing from the burial site and leaving the scene abruptly.

The officer was unable to make contact with the suspect, who departed the location in a blue vehicle.

The police department received a second call advising that the blue vehicle was parked in Gadsden Arms Apartment Complex, on the upper level near the laundry room.

An officer located the blue vehicle at Gadsden Arms Apartments and conducted a traffic stop.

A search of the vehicle revealed a black submachine gun (MasterPiece Arms 9-mm), which was found under the passenger seat, the press release states.

One 9-mm round was inside the chamber, and 23 9-mm rounds were inside the extended clip found along with the firearm.

A large bag of green leafy substance, with the appearance and smell consistent with marijuana, was found in plain view on the passenger seat, along with a smaller, clear pink baggie inside the larger bag filled with more green leafy substance, and 23 empty smaller baggies, the press release says.

A scope and a black scale (Model: MT-1000) were also seized.

The driver, 25-year-old Jacari Johnson who resides in Quincy, was arrested and charged with 24 counts of possession of ammo and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Johnson was also charged with possession of marijuana. He has since been released.

Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday, July 10 at 1:30 p.m. a Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop at the corner of West Jefferson and Shelfer Street in Quincy that led to a significant drug seizure and felony arrest.

The traffic stop resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.7 pounds of marijuana, .5 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded Glock 27 firearm.

The driver, Donell Brown, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.

Brown was transported and booked into the Gadsden County Jail.
