Jaime Chavez Rubio recently pled guilty to manslaughter by DUI and vehicular homicide stemming from a fatal crash that occurred in early 2023, the Florida Highway Patrol announced in a June 24 news release.
Rubio was sentenced to seven years in the Florida Department of Corrections and will serve an additional 10 years on probation. As part of his sentence, he must attend DUI school and counseling. His driver license has been permanently revoked.
The charges stem from a crash on February 19, 2023, at approximately 3:55 a.m., on U.S. 90 near Raymond Road in Gadsden County. Rubio was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 in the wrong direction when he collided head-on with a 2016 Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Corolla, a 32-year-old male, was killed at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate fatal crashes and coordinate with the State Attorney’s Office on related charges.
