Gadsden County News ServiceRobert F. Munroe Day School honored its graduating Class of 2025 with the annual senior class luncheon on Monday, May 5, at the Golf Club of Quincy. This event marked one of many special moments leading up to graduation, which is set for Saturday, May 17.
Seniors gathered to share a meal, reflect on their time at Munroe, and enjoy each other’s company one last time as classmates. The afternoon began with photos, laughter, and heartfelt stories from senior sponsors.
Before lunch was served, Head of School Andy Gay offered a blessing and shared a few words with the class.
“I may have only known this class for a couple of years,” he said, “but that doesn’t lessen how proud I am of each one of them.”
Senior class sponsor Naomi Kyles also spoke about the bonds she’s built with the students.
“I’ve been a senior sponsor for the past three years and have known many of these students since eighth grade,” she said. “Watching them grow into seniors has been truly special.”
The seniors enjoyed an open buffet while reminiscing and celebrating their journey.
“It’s a bittersweet moment,” said Christian Carranza, who was recognized as ‘Most Tech Savvy’ by his peers. “This is one of our final events together, but I’m excited to graduate with my classmates.”
Following the meal, the school announced the top five students of the graduating class: Cy’naa Hammett, Madison Clay, Wendy Xie, Kayla Washington, and Payton Keller. Senior superlatives and the American Citizenship Awards were also presented.
Class president Ella Suber offered a final message of encouragement to her peers.
“After 15 whole years—it’s bittersweet—but WE MADE IT!” she said.
The ceremony concluded with touching remarks from Head of Upper School Dawn Burch and Upper School Assistant Rod Mack.
“I’ve watched many of you grow from freshmen to seniors,” Mack said. “I may come off as tough, but I’m incredibly proud of all of you. You’ve done something remarkable.”
Some graduates were recognized not only for earning their high school diplomas but also for completing their Associate of Arts degrees from Tallahassee State College through Munroe’s dual enrollment program.
Robert F. Munroe Day School maintains partnerships with institutions such as Tallahassee State College, Lively Technical College, and Gadsden Technical College. Qualifying students may also take courses in person at Florida State University or online through the University of South Florida. These dual enrollment options provide students with flexible academic and career pathways to set them up for future success.
Since 2022, more than 10 students per year have earned their A.A. degrees at TSC. Others have earned career certifications through Gadsden Technical College, graduating ready to join the workforce with practical, in-demand skills.
“We’ve seen firsthand how valuable these opportunities are,” said Mrs. Burch. “Over the past four years, nearly 50 students have earned their degrees or certifications before even leaving high school.”
Senior teacher Jaclyn Ellington reflected on the milestone with pride. “It’s been a privilege to watch these students grow into young men and women,” she said. “We’re all incredibly proud.”
