The Ivy Shop: A New Chapter

The Ivy Shop in Quincy, Florida, is thriving under new ownership thanks to Stacy Hannigon,

who took over in November 2024. Hannigon’s decision to buy the shop came after losing her job and

discovering the shop for sale during a morning walk. “The inspiration to operate the flower shop and continue its legacy was truly fate,” she reflects. Within a month, she was the proud new owner.

Hannigon’s passion for floristry is more than creating beautiful arrangements; it’s about offering

comfort. “I see it as an opportunity to offer a listening ear, provide comfort, and minister to those

in need,” she explains. Although new to the floral industry, Hannigon's compassion is clear. She

remembers giving flowers to a mother buying for her cancer-stricken daughter. “I ended up

giving her the flowers at no charge and praying for her family,” Hannigon’s says.

Under Hannigon’s leadership, The Ivy Shop now offers delivery services across Gadsden and

surrounding counties, as well as 24/7 online ordering. “Two major changes are that we now offer

delivery, and I’ve introduced online ordering to make it easier for our clients,” she says. Hannigon’s is

also committed to sourcing flowers from local growers, including farmers in Gadsden and

Jefferson counties. “I’m always looking for the best flowers for my clients,” she says.

Hannigon’s journey is deeply personal, rooted in faith and family. “My mom, who passed from breast

cancer in 2022, loved flowers. I can’t help but think how proud she would be if she were alive to

see me doing this,” she reflects. Hannigon said The Ivy Shop initially opened in 1956, and from what she’s been told, she is the third female owner.

The Ivy Shop’s history is shaped by those who came before Hannigon, including Nancy McClendon,

the second owner, who ran the shop for 26 years. Nancy’s floristry journey began at 14 when she

started washing buckets at a local shop. “I started washing buckets at a floral shop at 14 after

school. On Saturdays, I was allowed to watch and practice with flowers,” she recalls. After

graduating from the South Florida School of Floral Design and a 15-year break, Nancy decided

to open her own shop. “I decided that I wanted to have my own shop and do what I loved,” she

says.

In 1992, Nancy became the second owner of The Ivy Shop, where she left a lasting impact for 26

years. “I have worked in the floral industry for 48 years. I was the second owner of the Ivy Shop

and owned it for 26 wonderful years!” Nancy shares. After retiring in 2018, Nancy reflected, “I

decided to retire and enjoy my family,” but her legacy continues to influence the shop today.

Hannigon’s commitment to The Ivy Shop’s legacy is evident in her work, especially in creating

meaningful bereavement arrangements. “Being able to share in a family’s final farewell is the

most impactful,” she says.

Hannigon’s story reflects faith and resilience. “I give God all the glory for this. Reopening the doors

of The Ivy Shop did not cost me one penny, and the shop was fully stocked on day one,” she

reflects.
