Senator Loranne Ausley hosts Community Open House in Quincy

Senator Loranne Ausley recently hosted an open house at her Quincy office for her constituents in late June; during the open house, guests had the opportunity to enjoy h’orderves and speak with Ausley.

Ausley and her staff have been working in the district office since she won the election in 2020, but were unable to have an official open house due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“So now that we’re somewhat coming out of COVID we want to make sure to let everyone know that we’re here if you need us,” said Senator Ausley’s legislative assistant, Jerome Maples.

Ausley represents District 3 in the Florida Senate.

The counties under her representation are Calhoun, Gulf, Liberty, Franklin, Gadsden, Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor and Hamilton.

In addition to the district office being in Quincy, Ausley's main office is in Tallahassee.

“We are going to be having a mobile district office, meaning we’ll be in certain locations throughout the other nine counties,” Maples said.

Quincy City Commissioner Keith Dowdell said he believes it will benefit the City of Quincy to be the home of her district office, because Ausley and her staff will be able to see firsthand any local issues that need to be handled.

“It’s good that you can just walk out the door and go next door to talk to somebody. Telephone calls are good but when you can be eye-to-eye and touch it’s a totally different story,” Dowdell said. “She’ll be able to see some of this stuff herself and when she sees it then we know she’s gone help us out.”

Ausley has visited the teachers in her smaller counties at the end of the 2020-2021 academic school year.

She hopes to get a chance to visit all of the teachers in her jurisdiction by the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

Ausley also hopes to get a chance to speak with students whether she comes to the classroom or they take field trips to either of her two offices.

“I love any opportunity to interact with kids. I want them to learn that your government is approachable,” Ausley said, adding that she prioritizes being seen as approachable to her constituents. “It’s the greatest honor in the world for me to be a public servant. But being a public servant is being just that. Being open and accessible to the people who I represent.”

Ausley and her staff encourage the community to visit the office at 20 East Washington Street, Suite D, in downtown Quincy.

“I just want to make sure that the citizens of Gadsden County and all of District 3 know that we’re open and that we’re here,” Ausley said. “Now that restrictions are easing we hope people will come visit us and let us know what’s important to them.”
