“The spring classic is like the first big ride of the season,” said Ann Kozeliski, director of Havana Main Street. “After the cold weather has calmed down, it’s really something you can look forward to.” The annual Havana Hills Spring Classic ride is returning to Havana this weekend, with its several options of cycling tours throughout Gadsden County’s beautiful countryside. Whether you are looking for a casual day-trip while cycling out in the countryside, or a vigorous cycling experience, the Havana Hills Spring Classic may be just what you are looking for to get out of the house and enjoy beautiful spring weather. This event, hosted by Havana Main Street is an annual cycling experience that gets people out on their bikes and touring rural Gadsden County. There are six planned routes – both paved road routes and “dirty” gravel road routes. There is everything from a 20-mile road route that will take cyclists through the border areas between Gadsden County and its neighboring Decatur County (Georgia) to the north, to the 88.5- mile paved and unpaved route, which will take cyclists on a scenic tour of East Gadsden County’s backgrounds, farm hills, and woodlands as well as a trek up almost to Bainbridge, Georgia. Other routes are the 25-mile Road & Gravel Route (from Havana to Attapulgus), the 43- mile Dirty Havana (all along the Florida- Georgia line north of Quincy), the 48-mile Road & Gravel Route (from Havana into Decatur County), and the 54-mile Dirty Havana (starting north of Quincy, and going almost to Bainbridge) In order to p a r t i c i p a t e , cyclists are asked to pay a $45 registration fee, which will go t o w a r d s p r o m o t i o n a l development of the event and for the creation of a bike/pedestrian trail between Havana and Tallahassee. Additionally, those who register will be able to enjoy a f e llowship session after the rides, with food and beer for the r e t u r n i n g cyclists; food will be sponsored by Havana’s up-and-coming Irish pub, Off The Rails.
