More affordable housing coming to Quincy

Last week Quincy commissioners voted unanimously to accept a grant that will bring more housing to the city.
The Gadsden County Development Council applied for a grant from the Florida Department of Commerce for the extension of South Springs Road.
The project will make the development of a 116-unit affordable housing apartment complex, which will be called Cross Creek Gardens.
The grant is for $909,810 and does not require contribution from the city.
Quincy’s utility director Richard Ash The grant will allow the city to extend the road by 1,200 feet, and install stormwater drainage and utilities needed for the expansion, such as water, sewer and electricity.
It will also include paving.
Ash said the expansion will be expanded in 3 phases.
South Springs Road is located on the north side of Walmart.
Arbours at Quincy, an 80-unit apartment complex, is already under construction on that road.
Ash said South Spring Road will run into the Cross Creek Gardens’ complex. The complex will curve behind Walmart, and extend to Hogan Lane.
Commissioner Ronte Harris asked Ash if the area behind Walmart had already been annexed into the city, and if the road would run through property that hadn’t been annexed in.
