Local entrepreneur seeks to make an impact in the community.

To those who know her, Gadsden County native Davia Nelson has been described as a “jack of all trades.”

The 27-year-old is an up-and-coming entrepreneur, mother, business owner, and certified educator; Nelson juggles these tasks day by day, for the ultimate purpose, she says, of growing her family’s generational wealth and to provide transformational resources to children from her community.

Born and raised in Gretna, Nelson attended James Shanks Middle School and graduated from East Gadsden High School, which is now known as Gadsden County High School.

After graduation, Nelson felt that it was necessary to completely change her environment in order to create more opportunities - which led to her attending University of South Florida pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.

While attending the University of South Florida, Nelson met the man who would become her romantic and business partner, Lee Williams Jr.

Today, the couple have been together for five years and also share a three-year-old daughter.

While in between jobs, the two decided to develop their own, family-owned custom wood company named “Sovereign Customs and Designs LLC” with the goal of creating anything from custom coffee tables to headboards and more.

Davia Nelson (pictured here with her partner, Lee Williams, Jr. and the couple’s daughter) is a local entrepreneur who recently returned to her Gadsden County roots with a mission of impacting lives in her home-town.

“I could always make everything we need. I could build a house by myself if that’s what we needed,” said Williams. “One day, Davia overheard me talking to a friend about how I built the table for our house, and instantly she jumped up and told me this is a calling for us to take this craft to the next level.”

Following graduation, Nelson worked as an educator at Colson Elementary and James Elementary, both in the Tampa Bay area.

After six years of teaching, Nelson believed it was the point in time where she should move back to her roots in North Florida and jump into entrepreneurship.

Being a talented craftswoman, Nelson opened her own beautician company, “Faux Dai Locs LLC”.

This company provides individuals with expert service for several types of locs and other natural hair styles.

“Ever since I met Davia, she has been driven and dedicated to perfecting her craft,” said Ashley Anesca, one of Nelson’s clients. “Over the years, it has been an amazing pleasure watching her become a devoted hairstylist, mother and educator.”

One would think being a full-time mother, co-business owner, and hairstylist would be a lot on anyone’s plate, but not for Nelson.

On top of all those responsibilities, Nelson found time to create a clothing brand named “Spice Fitness Apparel”, which was founded with a mission to revitalize and motivate women to work out and get in shape by providing fashionable gym attire which can help them get the ‘spice’ back in their life.

Being the owner of several different companies and brands ultimately has a purpose greater than the monetary value.

Having the ability to create opportunities and resources for individuals who are less fortunate is the top motivating factor for Nelson, she says.

“My ultimate goal is to open a set of pre-schools that will be extremely affordable, if not free,” said Nelson. “Growing up in Gadsden County and still to this day, I see opportunity but not enough resources to make an

impact on kids' lives, I want to give kids in my community a better outlook on life.”
