It was not easy to get to where they are now. The Gadsden County Jaguars hold a strength and unity like no other team out there playing this season. Losing Head Coach Corey Fuller in 2022 was a devastating blow and emotional feat for the Jaguars to face. The team had grown to love him as part of their football family and the sudden change was a heartbreaking challenge for them to get through emotionally. Fuller made a sudden career change and transitioned to the position of Director of Football Relations at Florida State University. While everyone was happy, he was given such a great opportunity, the team he left couldn’t help but feel abandoned in the process.
Now two years later the Jaguars are at the top of their game and better than ever In January of 2023 Robert F. Munroe’s Head Football Coach Russell Ellington resigned to coach for the Gadsden County Jaguars. With a lot of dedication, hard work, and training he has led this year’s 2024 team into a winning season that has put the team at the top of the Big Bend list for best teams. The Jaguars journey to success was a hard ladder to climb. Winning does not come easy, and the lessons learned along the way have been important challenges that help build a team that works in unity.
The Jaguars are currently 6-1 overall this year and snagged one of their best wins of the season last week when they dethroned the Lincoln Trojans from a 5-game winning streak. The final score was 31-21 crowning the Jaguars as the kings of the Big Bend high school football teams and imprinting their journey with higher expectations for future games.
The Jags have only faced one defeat thus far back in September when they traveled to and played against the Coffee Trojans in Douglas, Georgia. It was a close game with a final score of 27-14.
Winning against the Tift County Blue Devils (45-7), the McCallie Blue Tornados (27-23), the Godby Cougars (48-7), the Seminole County Indians (60-7), the Impact Christian Academy Lions (7-0), and the Lincoln Trojans (31-21), has built a confidence for the little town of Havana’s football athletes like no other. The community is extremely proud of how hard their Jaguar team has clawed their way to being in a number one spot and will continue to love and support them throughout this adventure of winning big.
The Jaguars have three more games listed on the schedule before football championship games are planned. They will be playing Florida State University High School, Taylor County, and Wakulla High School.
You don’t want to miss the opportunity of seeing the Gadsden Jaguars play this season so be sure and try to attend one of the games and show support for their athletic journey.
