The county owes a consulting firm $52,000 for two weeks of work the firm provided on the county’s proposed budget.
The county does not have a budget director, so County Administrator Ed Dixon hired Integrity Group to help with the 2024-2025 budget.
During a commission meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3, Dixon admitted the cost to use the consulting company was very expensive, and not his best work.
Commissioner Alonzetta Simpkins said she looked over the most recent version of the proposed budget, and not many changes had been made.
Commissioner Eric Hinson noted the county has a $35,000 procurement policy, which means any purchase more than $35,000 must be approved by the board. Hinson said he would not vote in favor of paying the $52,000, and added doing so would be illegal, and the governor could possibly step in.
