Celebrating 200 years of Gadsden with a 5K run/walk

The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners, the Gadsden County Tourist Development Council , and the G200 Committee recently announced the opening of the registration process for the Gadsden County Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk.

The Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, during Labor Day Weekend. There will be no registration fee for the 5K Run/Walk; however, participants can register online on the Gadsden County Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk Webpage. The run/walk will start at 8 a.m., with on-site registration beginning at 7 a.m.

“As Gadsden County continues to celebrate our Bicentennial, we will host events that everyone in our County and throughout the state of Florida can participate in. This 5K Run/Walk will allow us to focus on our physical health and demonstrate our commitment to improving the health care statistics in our County,” Gadsden County Board of County Commission Chairman Kimblin NeSmith said. “We welcome Gadsden Countians of every age group and fitness level to come out and participate in the County’s inaugural 5K Run/Walk. We want you there whether you are racing, casually walking, jogging, speed walking, or slow strolling. Join us the Labor Day Weekend for this wonderful event.”

Course

The run/walk course is set for downtown Quincy on King Street. The mainly straight, flat course gives participants a great chance to run, jog or walk.

Free Run/Walk t-shirts will be available with free online registrations completed by Thursday, August 17, 2023.

This race will not be officially timed. However, there will be a race clock at the finish line, and participants are free to capture their own time.

“This community event is set to be at your own pace, so no matter how you move, we want you to come out and enjoy the Run/Walk,” Gadsden County Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk Co-Race Director Denise Fletcher said. “Also, please be sure to register online early to ensure we have a race t-shirt reserved for you, your family members, and friends.”

In Person Registration and Packet Pickup

Early On-site Registration and Run/Walk Packet Pickup will take place on Thursday, August 31, between 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday, September 1, between 9 a.m. - noon at the Gadsden County Administration Building, Edward J. Butler Governmental Complex, 9-B E. Jefferson Street, Quincy.

Race Day On-site Registration will take place on Saturday, September 2, at 7 a.m. at the Gadsden County Courthouse Square, on the corner of N. Adams Street and Washington Street.

“We look forward to having a wonderful Gadsden County Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk,” Gadsden County Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk Co-Race Director Karen Watson said.

Volunteer

Community members who would like to volunteer can register by clicking on the volunteer link on the Run/Walk website or by sending an email request to 5k@gadsden200.org .

The Gadsden County Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk is one of many Bicentennial celebration and commemoration events that will span nearly a year and are being organized and hosted by the BOCC, the TDC, and the G200 Committee.
