Gadsden County News ServiceA Gadsden County man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of an internet café security guard.
Tyrone Washington was convicted this week for killing Lewis Butler, who was working as a security guard when Washington and his co-defendant Kelvin Brown attempted to rob the business. Washington was also found guilty of the attempted first-degree murder of the store clerk, who was shot during the botched robbery but survived.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence showing that Washington and his accomplice entered the internet café armed and attempted to carry out a robbery. A struggle ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Butler was fatally shot as he intervened. According to earlier reporting, Butler pushed the clerk out of the line of fire during the chaos.
Washington is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2. Brown is expected to stand trial at a later date.
