Unity required for Friendship Community clean-up

On Saturday, September 10, Gadsden County Commissioner Brenda Holt and the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Community Helpers hosted a Love Where You Live Community Trash Round-Up day.

Volunteers cleaned up the Friendship Community as part of the County’s Love Where You Live Keep Gadsden County Beautiful Campaign.

The Love Where You Live Campaign was created to engage the community in reducing litter and pollution in the county.

The event began at 9 a.m.

Cleaning supplies, including gloves, a safety vest, trash bags, and a trash picker, were provided to volunteers.

Lunch was also provided to the volunteers.

“God knows that Gadsden County is an amazing place to live,” said Elder Willie Gaines, Pastor of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church. “The Friendship Community is part of Gadsden County, and we want to be proud of where we live. And to do that, we as a community must do better at cleaning up after ourselves and putting litter in the trash can and not on the ground.”

This is the second year in a row Pastor Gaines and his congregation have led by example in the community by hosting the community clean-up event.

“I would like to thank Pastor Gaines and the Friendship P.B. Church Helpers for loving where they live enough to want to keep it litter-free. They are the best example of showing why we love where we live,” Commissioner Holt said.

Are you interested in helping keep your community clean but don’t know where to start?

Call the Gadsden County Public Information Office at (850) 875-8671 to schedule a “Pick it up Saturday” in your community.

Residents will be outfitted with gloves, bags, safety T-shirts, and a road assignment.

It’s a great way to make a difference and a productive way for young people to pile up some community service hours while enjoying the great outdoors.
