Gadsden County is among Florida’s best for small businesses

A recent study performed by SmartAsset, a financial planning and advisory website, found that Gadsden County is among the top counties in Florida for small business success.

Across the 67 counties in Florida, Gadsden County ranks third, below Nassau and Monroe counties, respectively.

To conduct this study, SmartAsset surveyed small business owners across the state of Florida.

First, they determined three factors most relevant to small business success: small business returns, small business income, and income taxes.

After identifying these components, they used each of them to develop their own “Small Business Index,” which indicates an area’s conduciveness to small business success.

“To determine how attractive a region is for small business owners, we compared the number of tax returns that report small business income and compared that to the total tax-filing population of the region,” SmartAsset’s website publishes. “Next, we compared the total amount of small business income to the overall amount of income reported in each region.” Finally, the SmartAsset team examined income taxes in each region, given that income tax burdens disproportionately affect small business owners. After completing this process, Gadsden County was recognized as a premier region to start a business.

Not only does SmartAsset praise Gadsden County’s small business statistics, but local small business owners accredit Gadsden County with aiding their success.

Several small businesses thrive in Gadsden County, including local favorites such as Kellum’s Furniture in Havana and Bleachers Pub in Chattahoochee.

Satina Clark, owner of Kavannah’s Sweet Boutique of Quincy, praises Gadsden County’s small community and unique environment.

“Locals like to support our small businesses,” Clark says. “[Gadsden County] is good about helping small businesses get the word out.”

In addition, Clark shared her appreciation for Gadsden County’s small business resource center, which assists new business owners with training, exposure, and promotion.

Given SmartAsset’s analysis and the personal experiences of local business owners, Gadsden County may be the best place for small businesses to get their start.
