Meth, fentanyl seized in Leon County drug busts

Earlier this month, deputies with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office reportedly seized more than 100 grams of methamphetamine and three grams of fentanyl.

Local law enforcement agencies, and those in surrounding counties like Leon, continue to investigate several drug-related overdoses.

On Tuesday, July 12, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of the agency’s Uniform Patrol Division, executed a search warrant at the Quality Inn on North Monroe Street.

The search warrant was the result of an investigation, that identified 44-year-old Timothy Gay as a suspect, connected to several drug-related overdoses in Leon County.

Gay was taken into custody with approximately 37 grams of methamphetamine in his possession.

During the search of the hotel room, registered in Gay’s name, detectives found an additional 89 grams of methamphetamine and approximately three grams of fentanyl the press release says.

Cierra Roylance, 26, was also reportedly located inside the room and arrested.

In addition to drug charges, Roylance is facing other charges related to several active warrants.

Gay and Roylance were both booked into the Leon County Detention Facility.

However, court documents filed with the Leon County Clerk of Courts tell a different account of what transpired on July 12.

According to a Second Judicial Circuit Arrest/Probable cause affidavit the following occurred:

A Leon County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant initiated a traffic stop on a black 2007 Dodge Ram near the Heritage Plaza on Sharer Road in Tallahassee.

The officer observed driving without lights during sunset.

The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. Gay, who was the passenger, identified himself.

A K-9 deputy was on scene. The lieutenant asked the driver for consent to search his vehicle, to which he declined.

After both occupants agreed to exit the vehicle for a K-9 sniff, the driver provided verbal consent to search his vehicle.

A K-9 sniff was not conducted. No contraband was discovered inside the vehicle.

A deputy conducted body search on Gay, following verbal consent.

The deputy discovered two clear plastic bags containing crystalline substances; one bag weighed 27.2 grams with packaging, while another weighed 9.7 grams.

The deputy also found one clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance and one black electronic scale in Gay’s pocket.

Gay told the officers he found the bags of crystalline substance on the ground in the Walmart parking lot on North Monroe Street in Tallahassee.

Gay denied purchasing or selling the substance.

When asked what he believed it to be, Gay said he believed it was “Molly or Flakka.”

Individual samples from both bags of crystalline substance were field tested with individual field test kits, and both samples tested positive for the presence of Methamphetamine.

Roylance’s arrest affidavit provides even more insight; Gay was observed leaving the Quality in on

North Monroe Street, walking towards and entering the previously mentioned Dodge Ram by undercover narcotics detectives.

Roylance’s arrest affidavit states the following occurred: The black Dodge Ram left the hotel traveling south on North Monroe Street when information was relayed to marked uniform patrol units who established probable cause for a traffic stop.

As a result of the traffic stop, Gay was found in possession of approximately 37 grams of suspected methamphetamine which was seized from his pants, after he gave consent to search.

Detectives conducted a “knock and talk” at room 109, where Gay was seen leaving.

The detectives spoke with Roylance who granted entry.

Upon entering the room, a detective noticed suspected methamphetamine and suspected methamphetamine resident on an entertainment stand.

The detective also observed what appeared to be a large amount of suspected methamphetamine inside a partially opened Crown Royal bag.

That same day, a Leon County Judge J. Lee Marsh granted signed off on a search warrant for Gay’s hotel room.

Detectives found 89 grams methamphetamine, 3.4 grams of fentanyl.

Roylance was charged with one count of trafficking in methamphetamine over 14 grams, one count of possession of fentanyl, and one count of possession of paraphernalia.

Roylance also had outstanding warrants for failure to appear, related to possession of cocaine and possession of alprazolam (Xanax) charges from April, after a fight with Gay - who she said was her boyfriend of four months - at another Tallahassee hotel.

During that April incident, Roylance was arrested on an active warrant for battery charges.

Court documents related to Roylance’s arrest on battery charges tie her to another man recently arrested by Leon County Sheriff’s Office on drug trafficking charges.

According to an arrest affidavit Roylance was leaving a party with her ex-boyfriend Maxwell Collins, when the two got into an argument, Roylance tried to grab the steering wheel to crash the car.

The document says Collins maintained control of the car, but Roylance began kicking and hitting Collins.

Last month, a traffic stop led to Maxwell’s arrest on drug charges.

According to a Leon County Sheriff’s Office press release, a deputy observed “a habitual traffic offender in the driver seat of a vehicle” at a convenience store on Thomasville Road on June 4.

Collins, whose license was suspended, was placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 6.1 grams of fentanyl, 2.8 grams of cocaine, 28.5 grams of methamphetamine, 35.5 grams of THC oil, 30 suboxone pills, 1.6 pounds of marijuana, a scale, and grinder.

Collins was charged with trafficking in fentanyl, as well as trafficking in methamphetamine. He was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of cocaine.

In light of recent fentanyl overdoses Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young has said he doesn’t know how the deadly synthetic drug is being added to street drugs.

Young said he doesn’t know if local dealers are knowingly or unknowingly buying illicit street drugs

already laced with fentanyl from their suppliers, or if local dealers are knowingly lacing their own product.

The sheriff also has said it could have been incidents of cross contamination, for instance if marijuana is broken on a table where there is fentanyl residue.

During a roundtable discussion at the sheriff’s office earlier this month Florida Department of Law

Enforcement Acting Commissioner Mark Glass said a minuscule amount of fentanyl can cause a fatal overdose.

Although Gadsden County wasn’t involved in these Leon County arrests, Gadsden County’s Lieutenant Anglie Holmes said Gadsden County’s law enforcement agency is a part of a nine-county task force, which include Leon, that focuses on narcotics activities in North Florida.
