As hurricane season approaches, the Gadsden County Division of Emergency Management is gearing up to help residents get prepared. The department will host its 6th Annual Hurricane Preparedness Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the UNFI parking lot in Quincy.
The event is designed to equip residents with the knowledge and supplies they need to stay safe during storms. Attendees will receive essential hurricane kit items such as cleaning supplies, batteries, and ready-to-eat meals. In addition to free resources, the fair will offer a close-up look at emergency vehicles and life-saving rescue equipment.
“We aim to better prepare and educate Gadsden County residents for the hurricane season,” said Tashonda Whaley, Director of the Gadsden County Division of Emergency Management. “It’s crucial that residents understand their evacuation routes, assess the strength of their homes, and know what should be in their family’s hurricane kit.”
The fair is a collaborative effort, with support from the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners, the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, UNFI, Walmart, FAMU Cooperative Extension, the City of Quincy, Mother’s Care Network, and Beyond Before Community Development Corporation.
The event will take place at the UNFI parking lot located at 1797 Pat Thomas Parkway in Quincy. For more information, residents are encouraged to contact the Gadsden County Division of Emergency Management at 850-875-8833.
