On Wednesday, March 26, West Gadsden Middle School held the second of many monthly All Pro Dad meetings in their media center. The keynote speaker for March’s meeting was School Board Chairman Leroy McMillan.
This month’s meeting agenda, which was titled “Damage Control”, discussed how important it is for dads to not procrastinate and be better prepared for different situations. The meeting also included dads in attendance having the opportunity to publicly acknowledge their children for how proud they are of their children.
In addition to the keynote speaker, dads and students in attendance also received remarks from Lieutenant Chris Daniels with the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Principal Kim Cummings, and Superintendent Elijah Key.
All Pro Dad is a fatherhood program by the non-profit organization Family First, designed to help fathers become more engaged and passionate about their role in their family’s life, often through school-based chapters and character based curriculum. It emphasizes the importance of dads being involved in their children’s lives, offering resources and support for dads to strengthen their relationships with their children.
The program was launched in 1997 by Mark Merrill with the help of Tony Dungy, former head coach of the 2006 Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts.
West Gadsden Middle School’s chapter of All Pro Dad monthly meetings often include breakfast meetings, character-building topics, and opportunities for dads and kids to connect and engage in meaningful conversations.
These encounters aim to improve student outcomes, including grades and behavior, by getting dads more involved at their children’s schools.
