Quincy has a new upscale retail market.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, The White Rabbit–a rustic, chic, unique boutique offers a wide variety of goods and gifts.

Owners of the shop, newlyweds John and Robby Hinson, are both Gadsden County natives.

The two celebrated the store’s opening in downtown Quincy on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

John recently retired from Maclay School in Tallahassee after working in the school’s information technology department for 24 years.

He grew up in Quincy, as did many generations of his family, but moved back to Gadsden County three years ago, after living in Tallahassee for 40 years.

“It was time to start something new,” John shared.

Robby, who also owns a hair salon in Tallahassee, was born and raised in Havana.

Although both from Gadsden County, they had never met before matching on a dating app three years ago.

While considering many business opportunities, the idea of the store came up.

“I love rabbits,” Robby said when asked how they came up with the name for the store.

Robbie said wild rabbits that frequent their yard inspired the name.

About 30 people attended the store’s soft opening on Sunday, October 29. Even more stopped by throughout the day when the store officially opened last week.

“We received some good suggestions,” John said. “So many people came in saying this is exactly what Quincy needs.

The couple said they not only want to attract people from Gadsden County, but all surrounding areas as well.

“We want to let the market dictate what we sell in the future,” John said.

He noted they want to offer something for everyone.

For years–and for some, decades–buildings have sat vacant in downtown Quincy.

“We want to be a part of the revitalization of downtown Quincy,” Robby expressed.

The two have hopes of seeing the historic downtown district come back to life like Downtown Bainbridge and Thomasville.

“Having the White Rabbit begin their business here is a sense of pride for the historic downtown area and all of Quincy,” Quincy Main Street Director Lorene Kitzmiller said. “Their wide variety of items and price ranges means there is something for everyone. Additionally, a physical store provides shoppers with a personalized experience. We are so excited for Quincy!”

The Hinsons said they hope their leap of faith will encourage others to open businesses downtown.

John mentioned there’s a space available right next door to them if someone is interested.

“We are so excited to be part of this community,” John said. There’s such a great vibe and energy growing around Quincy and downtown and we’re just so proud to be part of it.”

The White Rabbit is located at 21 North Madison Street in Quincy.
